What's new for IBM i 7.1 to IBM i 7.3 upgrades

Requirements before you install IBM i 7.3 Licensed Internal Code

The IBM i 7.3 Licensed Internal Code requires more storage on the load-source disk unit than IBM i 7.1 Licensed Internal Code, but does not require additional storage when upgrading from IBM i 7.2. To upgrade to IBM i 7.3 Licensed Internal Code, you must have the minimum load-source disk size based on the type of disks being used. See the steps for determining if you have the required storage space within the topic Determining storage space required for a software upgrade.

In addition, all systems will require up to approximately 6.3 gigabytes of system ASP free space before IBM i 7.3 can be installed. Your upgrade will stop during the installation of Licensed Internal Code if you do not have this space.

Upgrading IBM i from prior releases
An IBM i 7.1 environment on a POWER7 processor-based server or an IBM i 7.2 environment on a POWER7 or POWER8® processor-based server can be upgraded to IBM i 7.3.
